Treponema Pallidum IgG detects long-lasting antibodies against the bacterium that causes syphilis. IgG antibodies develop as an infection progresses and usually persist for years, often for life, even after successful treatment. A positive result therefore indicates current or past exposure to syphilis rather than proving an active infection on its own.
