About the Test
Estriol (E3) is a form of oestrogen produced in large amounts during pregnancy, mainly by the placenta and the developing baby. Unconjugated estriol is measured as part of maternal screening to help assess the health of the pregnancy and estimate the risk of certain chromosomal or developmental conditions. Outside pregnancy levels are normally very low, so this test is chiefly used in an antenatal context.
What is it? A blood test measuring estriol, a pregnancy-related oestrogen, also known as E3 or unconjugated estriol (uE3).

Estriol (E3) test: purpose, preparation and results
Why take the Estriol (E3) test?
- Form part of second-trimester maternal serum screening for chromosomal conditions
- Help assess placental and fetal wellbeing during pregnancy
- Contribute, alongside other markers, to an overall risk estimate discussed with your doctor
How to prepare for the Estriol (E3) test
No fasting is required. Because estriol is interpreted using your gestational age, please have your dates or last menstrual period ready, and mention any pregnancy details so the doctor can read the result accurately.
Understanding your Estriol (E3) results
Estriol is assessed together with your gestational age and other screening markers rather than on its own, so a single value is not diagnostic. Unusually low levels may prompt further evaluation. Your report is doctor-reviewed, and any screening result should be discussed with your obstetrician before conclusions are drawn.

Estriol is a specialised assay, so results are usually ready in about 7 days. You will receive the doctor-reviewed report on WhatsApp and by email once processing is complete.
Largely yes. Unconjugated estriol rises substantially during pregnancy and is used mainly in antenatal screening. Levels are normally very low otherwise, so it is rarely ordered outside pregnancy.
No single marker does that. Estriol is one part of a combined screen; results are interpreted with your gestational age and other markers to give a risk estimate, which your obstetrician then discusses with you.
No fasting is needed. The sample can be collected at any time of day. Having your accurate pregnancy dates available is more important than any dietary preparation.
Yes. A DHA-licensed nurse comes to your home, office or hotel in Dubai and draws the sample in around 20 minutes, which many expectant mothers find more comfortable than a clinic visit.
The fee is quoted in AED and is self-pay, as home healthcare in the UAE is not insurance-covered. Payment is arranged directly when you book your at-home appointment.
