About the Test
This is our widest urine test. It runs two PCR panels on one sample: the full STI 28 panel, plus 17 bacteria that cause bladder and kidney infections, such as E. coli and Klebsiella. It also looks for 12 antibiotic-resistance genes, which show which antibiotic families are unlikely to work. It suits burning, discharge or urgency that keeps coming back and has not been explained.
What is it? A urine PCR test for 45 sexually transmitted, genital and urinary infections, with 12 antibiotic-resistance genes. Also called an STI 40 or STI and UTI panel.

STI + UTI Test – 45 Infections test: purpose, preparation and results
Why take the STI + UTI Test – 45 Infections test?
- Burning, urgency or discharge that keeps coming back
- Several courses of antibiotics without a clear answer
- STI and urine infection checked from one sample
How to prepare for the STI + UTI Test – 45 Infections test
No fasting is needed. Do not pass urine for at least 1 hour before the nurse arrives, so the sample holds enough of any organism. Most of these infections show on PCR from about 2 weeks after a possible exposure.
Understanding your STI + UTI Test – 45 Infections results
Each organism is reported as detected or not detected, and each resistance gene as found or not found. Some organisms, such as Lactobacillus, can be found in healthy people. A resistance gene is not a full culture result, so a BestDOC doctor reads the whole report with your symptoms and calls you if anything needs treating.
