About the Test
The STI 7 test checks one urine sample for the seven most common bacterial sexually transmitted infections: chlamydia, gonorrhoea, trichomonas, two types of mycoplasma and two types of ureaplasma. It uses PCR, which finds each organism's genetic material, so it picks up infections even when you have no symptoms. Many of these infections cause none, and all of them are treatable.
What is it? A urine PCR test for 7 sexually transmitted infections, also called an STI 7 or STD 7 panel.

STI Test – 7 Infections test: purpose, preparation and results
Why take the STI Test – 7 Infections test?
- A routine check with a new partner, or for peace of mind
- Mild symptoms such as discharge or burning when passing urine
- A partner has been told they have chlamydia, gonorrhoea or trichomonas
How to prepare for the STI Test – 7 Infections test
No fasting is needed. Do not pass urine for at least 1 hour before the nurse arrives, so the sample holds enough of any organism. Most of these infections show on PCR from about 2 weeks after a possible exposure, so testing earlier can miss one.
Understanding your STI Test – 7 Infections results
Each of the 7 infections is reported as detected or not detected. If one is detected, a BestDOC doctor calls you with a clear next step, which for these infections is usually a short course of antibiotics for you and your partner. A result with nothing detected means none of the 7 was found in the sample.
